Jeddah:The First Annual International Conference of the Saudi Society of Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery concluded with a focus on expanding local and multicenter research efforts, improving continuing medical education, and developing specialized training programs.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the conference's recommendations aim to generate scientific data that better address the needs of patients in Saudi Arabia. The importance of enhancing scientific cooperation and exchanging expertise between local and international specialists was highlighted, alongside fostering partnerships among scientific societies, universities, and healthcare institutions to advance education, research, and clinical practice.
In addressing dry eye and ocular surface diseases, the conference emphasized the need for early diagnosis and comprehensive patient assessments. It advocated for the use of modern, evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic methods, as well as advanced technologies, to evaluate the cornea and ocular surface, thereby improving diagnostic accuracy and selecting appropriate treatment plans.
The conference also recommended staying abreast of developments in refractive and cataract surgery. This includes exchanging expertise on new surgical techniques, refining intraocular lens power calculations, and selecting the most suitable lens for each patient. Additionally, it called for supporting the training of young physicians through workshops and educational programs.
