Jazan’s Marine Ecosystems Thrive as Premier Eco-Tourism Destination

Jizan:Jazan The coastal and marine destinations of the Jazan Region along the southern Red Sea are renowned for their diverse marine ecosystems, featuring sandy beaches, coral islands, and natural habitats that serve as a foundation for sustainable marine and eco-tourism.

According to Saudi Press Agency, within Jizan city, the northern and southern corniche waterfronts are popular recreational areas, offering landscaped walkways and breathtaking coastal views. The regional coastline, including beaches in Al-Shaqiq, Baish, and Al-Sahi, attracts both residents and visitors seeking various coastal recreational experiences.

Located approximately 50 kilometers from Jizan's mainland, the Farasan Islands archipelago is a key eco-tourism attraction, covering 5,657 square kilometers across more than 266 coral islands. It boasts pristine coral reefs, seagrass meadows, and mangrove stands that support vital coastal biodiversity, including the endangered Farasan gazelle, diverse marine species, and migratory seabirds.

The Farasan Islands' global environmental significance is underscored by its designation as a UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Reserve in 2021, its registration as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance in 2025, and its inclusion on the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas in 2026. These recognitions highlight the area's effective governance, conservation standards, and community involvement.

Tourism in the region is enriched by these ecological and cultural assets, offering activities such as island excursions, birdwatching, diving, and marine exploration. Efforts to protect habitats, regular environmental monitoring, and promoting responsible visitor practices are crucial to preserving the fragile ecosystems that contribute to Jazan's coastal allure.
