Jazan: A specialized medical team at the Endocrine and Diabetes Center in Jazan General Hospital has successfully treated a patient in their fifties with a globally rare chronic lipid disorder. The breakthrough came after the team diagnosed the patient with a unique combination of two rare syndromes, marking the first such instance documented worldwide.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the team discovered that the patient's persistently high, harmful blood fats were due to increased fat absorption and defective liver receptors. Genetic tests revealed two new, unrecorded genetic mutations. The precise diagnosis and treatment normalized the harmful fat levels, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
This achievement underscores the Jazan Endocrine and Diabetes Center's capacity to provide advanced care for rare conditions and highlights the expertise of its medical staff.
