Jazan City: Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries has achieved innovative results in recycling and economic returns through a collaboration with investors to activate industrial integration. This initiative aims to utilize secondary resources, promote environmental sustainability, and reduce carbon emissions.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the city supported the Solb Steel factory in reusing an unutilized by-product which had been an operational and environmental burden, enabling its effective and sustainable utilization. This initiative is the first of its kind in the Kingdom.
Moreover, the city has successfully utilized steel slag, a by-product from Electric Arc Furnace operations, as a raw material for the Southern Province Cement Factory. The slag's chemical and physical properties meet the requirements for cement manufacturing, which typically relies on pyrite ore. This initiative recycled over 100,000 tons of steel slag, reduced operational costs by 50%, cut carbon emissions by more than 40%, and established a sustainable replacement for pyrite ore.
