Baghdad: Iraq's prime minister's office has announced that Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi has instructed the commander-in-chief of the armed forces to investigate Saudi Arabia's report of drone attacks launched from Iraqi territory.
According to Deutsche Welle, the Iraqi government emphasized its constitutional commitment to maintaining good neighborly relations and preventing its territory from being used for attacks against friendly nations. The government is currently examining the available evidence and has pledged to take legal action against individuals proven to be involved in these acts.
Iraq, with a predominantly Shia population, is home to several Iran-backed Shiite militia groups, including the well-known Kataib Hezbollah. Iraq and Saudi Arabia share a lengthy border of more than 800 kilometers through the Arabian desert, and Iraq's southeastern coastline near the Persian Gulf is close to Saudi Arabia's eastern shores.
