International Translation Day Celebrates Global Role of Translators

Riyadh: International Translation Day is observed annually on September 30 to promote the translation profession worldwide. Launched in 1991 by the International Federation of Translators, the occasion highlights the role of translators in facilitating cultural dialogue and knowledge exchange. It also aims to safeguard this craft, which has long served as a bridge between nations by conveying intellectual works across languages.

According to Saudi Press Agency, translation contributes to strengthening communication and understanding between civilizations, including through international translation forums. It enriches scientific and cultural content through the publication of specialized works, while enhancing cooperation with international publishing houses to ensure cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. These efforts help build inclusive knowledge societies, preserve cultural heritage, and reinforce the profession.

International Translation Day also honors language specialists, whose efforts connect nations, peoples, and cultures. Their work facilitates dialogue and cooperation, while contributing to development and promoting global peace and security. Accurate translation, supported by effective interpreting and precise terminology, is vital to clarity and productivity in international communication.
