Interior Minister concludes 3-day visit to Baghdad with slew of agreements, MoUs

Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya and the accompanying delegation concluded a three-day visit to Baghdad, upon an invitation from his Iraqi counterpart, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari.

This visit aimed at developing economic and trade relations between Jordan and Iraq on the basis of mutual interests and common benefits.

The visit included meetings held with Iraq’s President, Prime Minister and a number of field visits to various federal departments of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior and the Border Guard Command.

Following a round of bilateral discussions in the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, the visit resulted in signing an agreement to grant visit visas from both countries, whether one-time or multiple for six months or multiple for one year within 24 hours from the date of its submission, provided that a mandate to be granted to the embassies of the two countries to implement this, and it was also agreed that letters in this regard would be sent to the embassies of the two countries.

The two parties agreed to cancel the Iraqi sponsor condition, which is required by the Iraqi authorities in the event of applying for a multiple visa application or submitting a residence application, and to replace the amount of financial insurance imposed on Jordanians, amounting to one million Iraqi dinars, with a return ticket for the person applying for this application.

The two sides also agreed to cancel the entry prohibition sign placed on Iraqi and Jordanian citizens who exceeded the period of residence, and to pay the fines resulting from this violation upon departure.

The two parties also agreed to grant residency in both countries within one week after the residency applicant completes all relevant documents.

The Iraqi side directed relevant authorities to solve issues Jordanian truck and transport vehicle drivers face and to study the possibility of rectifying the situation of Iraqis who entered Jordanian territory in 2014, as a result of the situation that Iraq witnessed during that period, according to the laws and regulations in force in the two countries.
