Jeddah: Deputy Governor of Makkah Region Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz is set to oversee the opening ceremony of the third edition of the International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO 2026) in Jeddah tomorrow. The event will see the participation of 120 students and science specialists representing 19 countries.
According to Saudi Press Agency, INSO, which received approval from the International Atomic Energy Agency in 2024, serves as a global scientific platform aimed at exchanging expertise among students in the realm of nuclear science and its peaceful applications. The event focuses on promoting the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technologies, encouraging youth specialization in nuclear science, and motivating them to devise solutions and innovations for expanding peaceful applications of nuclear technology.
Saudi Arabia's involvement with INSO began with the inaugural edition in the Philippines in 2024, followed by participation in the second edition in Malaysia in 2025. The Kingdom has achieved notable success in these competitions, securing five international awards, including one silver medal, three bronze medals, and a certificate of appreciation.
The decision to host the Olympiad in Saudi Arabia builds on the Kingdom's track record of successfully organizing international scientific competitions, such as the International Chemistry Olympiad in Riyadh in 2024 and the Asian Physics Olympiad in the Eastern Region in 2025. This underscores Saudi Arabia's significant role in organizing global scientific events and its commitment to fostering competitive environments that enhance the capabilities of gifted individuals and promote scientific collaboration.
