Jeddah: Participants in the third International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO 2026) completed the theoretical exam on Wednesday. The international scientific competition is being hosted by Saudi Arabia and organized by the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K.A.CARE).
According to Saudi Press Agency, this year's competition, which runs through August 9, brings together 60 students from 19 countries in a challenging environment designed to foster scientific excellence. It is also attended by 60 international team leaders and academics, with support from 20 specialists.
The five-hour exam, held at King Abdulaziz University, tested participants' knowledge and understanding of nuclear science concepts, as well as their analytical, problem-solving, and practical application skills in the field of peaceful nuclear technologies. Head of the INSO 2026 organizing committee Badr Al-Majrathi said the theoretical exam marked the second stage of the competition, following the practical exam. He noted that each exam lasted five hours and that the questions were translated into 14 languages, focusing on the peaceful applications of nuclear energy.
