Amman: The general index of industrial production quantities recorded a decline of 0.16 percent in the first half of 2024, reaching 86.21 points compared to 86.35 points for the same period in 2023. A monthly report Issued by the Department of Statistics on Monday attributed this decrease in the cumulative industrial production index to a 1.03 percent reduction in the manufacturing industries sector. Conversely, the production quantities in the extractive industries sector rose by 7.27 percent, and electricity production increased by 7.28 percent. The report also highlighted that the general index of industrial production quantities for June of this year decreased by 3.02 percent, dropping to 89.69 points from 92.48 points for the same month in the previous year. At the sectoral level, comparing June of this year to June 2023, manufacturing sector production quantities fell by 5.03 percent, while the extractive industries and electricity sectors saw increases of 2.50 percent and 26.37 percent, respectively . Additionally, the report noted a 2.73 percent rise in the general index of industrial production quantities in June compared to May of this year, reaching 89.69 points from 87.30 points. This monthly growth was driven by a 0.97 percent increase in the manufacturing sector, an 8.67 percent rise in the extractive industries sector, and a 26.68 percent surge in electricity production.
