Riyadh: The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the adoption by the UN Human Rights Council of a resolution on the repercussions of the unjustified Iranian attacks on several countries in the region, namely: the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan, and their impact on human rights.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the commission emphasized that the resolution’s unanimous adoption at its 61st session reflects a unified international stance that rejects and condemns these acts as grave violations. The commission stated that the resolution highlights grave concerns about the targeting of energy infrastructure and its negative repercussions on human rights, particularly the right to a safe, clean, healthy, and sustainable environment, as well as the threats these attacks pose to global trade, development, and food security. The resolution called on Iran to comply with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2817, to reduce the risks threatening regional and international stability, and to provide full, immediate, and effective compensation to the victims of these attacks.
The body stressed the importance of Iran fulfilling its obligations under international law and the UN Charter, and implementing relevant Human Rights Council and Security Council resolutions, thereby contributing to the protection of human rights and the establishment of peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region. It emphasized that a cessation of all forms of hostilities would strengthen solidarity among the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and embody their shared commitment to the principles of international law and the values of good neighborliness, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.
