Riyadh: International Labour Organization (ILO) Director-General Gilbert Houngbo praised Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to advancing global dialogue on labor issues, developing innovative policies, and achieving tangible labor market transformation.

According to Saudi Press Agency, in a statement during his participation in the third edition of the Global Labor Market Conference in Riyadh, Houngbo noted that Saudi Arabia has implemented wide-ranging reforms to address complex labor market challenges, strengthening governance, expanding inclusivity, and improving employment opportunities for citizens and residents in line with Vision 2030.

He said the conference has evolved into a leading global platform that brings together policymakers, employers, workers’ representatives, academics, and international institutions to exchange evidence-based solutions. He underscored its role in facilitating discussions on key issues, including skills development, technological change, job creation, and resilient social protection systems.

He pointed to reforms enhancing transparency and fairness in labor relations, such as wage protection and clearer contracts, affirming their role in reducing labor disputes.

Houngbo underscored the ongoing cooperation between the ILO and Saudi Arabia, including the latest phase of the joint cooperation program, which supports efforts in social protection, social dialogue, occupational safety and health, labor mobility, and other areas to promote decent work for all in the Kingdom.
