AOUN HOPES NEW GOVERNMENT WILL BE FORMED NEXT WEEK

The President of the Republic, Gen. Michel Aoun, expressed his hope that the formation of the new government will contribute to enhancing the positive atmosphere, especially with countries that want to help Lebanon, hoping that the government will see the light next week, to enhances the confidence of the abroad and inside at the same time. He pointed out that work is underway for selecting specialists.

President Aoun’s words came during a meeting with delegation from the Maronite Institution for Proliferation headed by Mr. Charles George Al-Hajj, and the presence of the Honorary President of the Foundation, MP Nemat Frem.

Mr. Al-Hajj gave a speech in which he said:

We have come with love

and respect to present our wishes for the holiday, asking God to grant you health and wisdom for passing through the difficult times we are witnessing. As you are keen on protecting your people who are in a state of concern about their future due to the economic situation in the country, which would lead to huge wave of immigration.

We as a foundation are working to enhance the connection between the motherland and the diaspora, and encourage the Lebanese abroad to preserve their attention to their motherland. But the Lebanese abroad who are striving to achieve a decent life are worried about their savings and need to be assured and regain confidence in the banking system, which was shaken in the past months.

The foundation has decided to host the Maronite academy in memorial of late former minister Michel Eddy.

We ask you to supervise the preparations of the occasion.

Gen Aoun’s reply:

President Aoun welcomed the delegation and congratulated the Maronite Foundation for the activities it had been carrying out in the service of the goals for which it was created. Then he touched on the difficult economic and financial situation that the country is going through, noting that several wrong practices took place in recent years that brought the country to what it is now, especially on the financial level and dealing with the dollar. He pointed out that Lebanon is almost the only country that deals internally with a foreign currency.

The President of the Republic reaffirmed the importance of the transition from the dependence economy to the productive economy, in order to achieve a balance in the balance of payments, after the percentage of imports recently increased significantly and by a difference of about 12 billion dollars, which reflected a scarcity at home and forced banks to take a set of measures aimed at avoiding faltering and maintaining the depositors’ money. He expressed his hope that the formation of the government will contribute to enhancing the positive atmosphere, especially with the countries wishing to assist Lebanon, hoping that the government will see the light next week in a way that enhances the confidence of the internal and external levels at the same time.

President Aoun stressed that “what happened recently on the domestic scene is a great burden, and we must in return get out of it and the current economic crisis,” stressing that the Lebanese people who recently revolted have all the right and I have always stressed this right and called on the people to stay in the street so that we can make a difference in light of the inability to continue the way it was. ”

He pointed out that the “McKinsey” economic plan constitutes a realistic scenario for developing the productive sectors in Lebanon and thus securing job opportunities and reducing importation, “and we will immediately start working according to it.”

-The youth sector in the Free Patriotic Movement:

President Aoun received a delegation from the youth sector in the FPM headed by Mr. Jihad Salama. The President and members of the delegation, discussed the current developments locally and regionally, in addition to the difficult economic and financial conditions. The President of the Republic assured the delegation that work is underway to get out of the current crisis through a number of measures, including the formation of a new government that will handle the situation and respond to the Lebanese aspirations, especially those who are calking for reforms that we started months ago, but the government’s resignation stopped progress, noting that the priority will be to achieve these reforms in cooperation with all those concerned.

President Aoun stressed that the anti-corruption campaign is continuing, “but its momentum will increase in the coming days, especially since the reform still needs hard work and steadfast witj determination.”

President Aoun stressed in the role of the Lebanese diaspora in terms of supporting their motherland in the countries in which they reside.

– Condolences for the Iranian and Iraqi presidents:

President Aoun sent to his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani, a condolences and condemnd the murder of Major General Qassem Soleimani and his companions.

The message said:

“I received with sarrow the news of the assassination of the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Major General Qassem Soleimani, and officials with him , at a very critical time in the Middle East region, in a way that could raise the scale of the challenges facing the countries of the region, and the level of tension and security threats.

On this painful occasion, I send you and the friendly Iranian people my heartfelt condolences, confirming Lebanon’s condemnation of the crime, and asking God Almighty to grant the deceased his mercy, and grant you health and wisdom to face the repercussions of this incident, and to establish stability and peace throughout your country, and to achieve Security and prosperity for your people. “

President Aoun also sent a similar message to Iraqi President Barham Saleh, condemning the crime that led to the assassination of Deputy Leader of the Popular Mobilization, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis.

Holiday greetings:

President Aoun received telegrams of cable messages from a number of Arab and foreign kings and presidents. Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, wished the President of the Republic and the Lebanese people prosperity and health.

Kuwait’s Emir, Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, hoped that God grant a good year for our Arab, Islamic nations as a whole, and for peace and security to prevail and prosperity for all brotherly and friendly peoples.”

Emir of Qatar, Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, wishes President Aoun health and wellness and the Lebanese people progress.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi hoped that “the new year will provide an opportunity to join our efforts in order to overcome the great challenges that our world is witnessing today to move towards achieving the goals of peace, stability and development that we all seek.”

Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, hopes for “steadfast brotherly support positions from Lebanon to our people and their struggle for their freedom and for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with its capital, Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

President Aoun also received cables of congratulations from the Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, and the Polish President, Andre Doda.
