Riyadh: The Human Rights Commission, in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has successfully concluded a workshop focused on international humanitarian law and its implementation mechanisms at the commission's headquarters. This event is part of the Kingdom's persistent efforts to bolster national capacities in the realms of international human rights and humanitarian law.
According to Saudi Press Agency, during the workshop's opening session, Zuhair bin Mohammed Al-Zoman, Assistant President of the Human Rights Commission, highlighted the necessity of integrating international humanitarian law, which governs situations of armed conflict, with international human rights law. He stressed that a comprehensive approach by institutions dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights is crucial for their successful amalgamation.
Furthermore, Mohamed Sheikh-Ali, a representative of the ICRC, commended the robust and collaborative relationship between the Kingdom and its humanitarian and international partners. He described this partnership as longstanding, essential, and forward-looking, grounded in a mutual commitment to safeguarding human dignity, especially in armed conflict settings.
"The Kingdom has consistently taken a leading role in advancing international humanitarian law," Sheikh-Ali stated, "through sustained engagement with relevant institutions on integrating humanitarian law into national frameworks and operational practices."
