Heritage Commission Registers 1,516 New Archaeological Sites in Saudi Arabia


Riyadh: The Heritage Commission has announced the registration of 1,516 new archaeological sites in the National Antiquities Register, bringing the total number to 11,577. This expansion underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to documenting and preserving its archaeological heritage across the Kingdom.



According to Saudi Press Agency, the newly registered sites are spread across various regions: Riyadh Region accounts for 1,174 sites, Al-Baha has 184 sites, Tabuk includes 85 sites, Northern Borders feature 70 sites, and Jeddah contains three sites. The registration of these sites is part of a broader effort to enhance the archaeological database, ensuring their sustainability for future generations and thereby strengthening national identity and cultural heritage.



The Heritage Commission encourages citizens and residents to report any unregistered archaeological sites through the Archaeological Site Reporting service, its official social media accounts, and local branches. This initiative aims to foster community partnership in protecting and developing the nation’s heritage.
