Al-dara: Al-Dara, a traditional folk art closely associated with weddings and social gatherings in Madinah, holds a prominent place in the cultural heritage of the Hejaz, featuring men chanting in circles using various melodic modes, often accompanied by ceremonial gunpowder displays.
According to Saudi Press Agency, distinguished by its harmonious vocal performances and the recitation of short popular verses, Al-Dara has traditionally served as a celebratory art form during weddings, holidays, and public gatherings. As its presence began to fade in the 1980s, the Madinah Arts Troupe was established in 1402 AH to preserve and promote this heritage.
Since then, Al-Dara has evolved from a local wedding tradition into a celebrated feature at major national events such as Saudi National Day and Founding Day. Increased media coverage has played a key role in boosting its visibility, while cultural initiatives continue to introduce this art form to new generations.
