Riyadh: The Ministry of Health affirmed that receiving the meningitis vaccine is a mandatory requirement for workers participating in the 1447 AH Hajj season, as part of efforts to enhance the safety of workers and pilgrims. Ministry of Health Spokesperson Abdulaziz Abdulbaqi said the requirement comes in line with directives issued by the Supreme Hajj Committee aimed at strengthening prevention and curbing the spread of infectious diseases in high-density gathering areas. He emphasized that safeguarding workers remains a priority for the healthcare sector. According to Saudi Press Agency, Abdulbaqi explained that the vaccine helps protect against serious infections that may spread in crowded settings. It also enhances the safety of workers and pilgrims, reduces the risk of transmission among them, and contributes to community protection after the Hajj season ends. He added that the approved meningitis vaccine remains valid for five years, meaning individuals who received the vaccine within that period, in accordance with approved health regulations, do not need to be revaccinated. Abdulbaqi said completing the vaccination is required to obtain a work permit for the Hajj season. He stressed the importance of receiving the vaccine at least 10 days before starting work to ensure effectiveness. He also urged workers to complete other recommended vaccinations, particularly seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccines. The measures form part of an integrated system aimed at enhancing public health and strengthening preventive preparedness to provide a safe and healthy environment for workers and pilgrims during Hajj.
