Riyadh: Several international experts and industry executives emphasized the importance of enhancing Internet sustainability to meet the evolving needs of regulators, telecommunications providers, and users, during a panel discussion held yesterday as part of the exhibition accompanying the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR25).

According to Saudi Press Agency, participants highlighted key factors essential to Internet sustainability, including strengthening infrastructure, preserving linguistic and cultural diversity, adopting technical and ethical best practices, and fostering international cooperation and competitiveness.

Speakers highlighted that the Internet has two layers: a visible one that users engage with daily through apps and services, and a less visible infrastructure layer made up of domain names, IP addresses, and protocols.

They noted that the ICANN organization plays a pivotal role in managing this infrastructure by establishing policies related to domain names and numbers. ICANN also collaborates with governments, regulators, and the international community to support the Internet's sustainability.
