Grand Mosque, a Holy Masterpiece Adorned with Chandeliers in a Unique Islamic Style

The Grand Holy Mosque’s chandeliers, lamps, and lanterns are distinguished by their unique Islamic character, made especially for the Grand Holy Mosque in different shapes and sizes and with the highest specifications and modern technologies, add an aesthetic touch that illuminates the parts of the Mosque, its squares, roof, minarets, and the Saudi expansion.

According to The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Holy Mosque and the Prophet’s Holy Mosque, there are more than 500 chandeliers of different shapes and sizes installed in the Mosque characterized by a decorative composition inspired by the Islamic style, painted with Quranic verses with very artistic and decorative lines.

The Mosque is also illuminated by more than 120 lighting units dispersed on its courtyards, the roof, the minarets, and the expansion area, which in their entirety embody the care enjoyed by the Two Holy Mosques from the Saudi leadership.

The lighting units are distributed throughout the Grand Mosque, connected to a control unit equipped with the latest international technologies available in terms of lighting. These units control the intensity of the illumination. In addition, there are more than 1000 lighting units installed on the surrounding external columns and walls which add ambience and elegance to the architecture.

These decorative chandeliers, lanterns, and lamps operate with an energy-efficient LED lighting system for efficiency of lighting and to save energy with its unique design whilst remaining consistent with the architectural character of the Grand Mosque. The lights are made of stainless steel and gold-plated material, with a thickness of two microns. Each chandelier weighs 280 kilograms, with a layer of lacquer protection that is highly scratch resistant.

The lighting is suspended by a highly dynamic and flexible suspension system that is also characterized by a highly dynamic and flexible “duplex” type, which is resistant to air currents and climatic changes, according to the best technical specifications and engineering practices, and the Saudi Building Code system.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque performs the necessary maintenance periodically which emphasizes the illumination of the Grand Mosque. Other forms of maintenance including polishing work are undertaken regularly to ensure that the searchlights and their connections work permanently and continuously.
