Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Wednesday 14/4/2021 Egypt will continue endeavors to activate various paths of the Libyan file until reaching a comprehensive political settlement.
This settlement should be achieved in a way that preserves Libya’s unity, guarantees the departure of all mercenaries and foreign fighters from the North African country and meets the aspirations of the Libyan people to achieve stability and development, the foreign minister added.
Shoukry made the remarks during his meeting here with Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General Ján Kubiš.
During the meeting, Shoukry said it is important that various parties abide by implementing the outcome of the national dialogue and holding the elections in accordance with the agreed timeframe.
Shoukry asserted the necessity of ending foreign interference that enhances inter-Libyan division, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said.
In this regard, Shoukry voiced Egypt’s support to the work of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee (JMC).
He also asserted Egypt’s support to Kubis’s constant efforts to reach a political solution in Libya.
Meanwhile, the UN envoy posted Shoukry on the results of his recent contacts with the parties engaged in the Libyan crisis, expressing his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to back a settlement in Libya.
