GEOSA, UNDP Conclude Training Program on Ocean Affairs, Law of Sea

A training program hosted by Saudi Arabia in the field of ocean affairs and the law of the sea came to a close on Thursday after extending for 15 days and attracting 55 trainees from various government entities. The program was organized by the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program's (UNDP) Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (UN DOALOS). Consultants, legal experts, and academics from UN DOALOS, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) participated in the training. The program covered the fundamental understanding of the legal and institutional system of oceans and seas, the application of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and maritime zone divisions. It also encompassed the scientific research system, negotiation mechanisms, dispute settlement in maritime laws, drafting agreements, understanding ocean governance framew orks, and related information. The training reflects GEOSA's efforts to develop national professionals in the field of survey and geospatial information in collaboration with universities, specialized institutes, and relevant entities inside the Kingdom and beyond.
