ARAB LEAGUE CHIEF ALARMED AT REPORTED EXECUTIONS IN SYRIA

CAIRO, Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit expressed concern on Thursday at reports indicating that the Syrian regime had executed 13,000 prisoners.

The secretary general spokesman, Mahmoud Afifi, quoted Abul-Gheit as condemning the reported executions, disclosed by International Amnesty.

The reported execution of 13,000 persons mostly civilians, in the event they have been verified, are tantamount to war crimes, he quoted the secretary general as adding.

Amnesty International has reported “systematic hangings” in Sidanaya prison over the past five years.
