23.6% OF EGYPT’S POPULATION ARE YOUTH

Egypt’s official statistics agency, CAPMAS, said that, 23.6 percent of the country’s population � 21.7 million people, out of 93 million � are between the ages of 18 and 29, 48.5 percent of whom are members of the workforce, and 26.7 percent are unemployed.

The CAMPAS statement, which was issued on International Youth Day, said that, 51 percent of the youth are males and 49 percent are females.

Some 62.6 percent of Egypt’s married males and 83.6 percent of married females fall within this age range, while 23.2 percent of the country’s divorced males and 43.6 percent of divorced females are among the youth.

Of the youth, who are part of the workforce, an estimated 67 percent are males and 29.3 percent are females, while unemployment among the youth is at 21.6 percent males and 38.8 percent females.

Some 37.7 percent of the unemployed youth hold university degrees, while 29.8 percent of the unemployed youth, who hold degrees are male and 48.4 percent female.

According to the UN’s official website, 2017’s International Youth Day is “dedicated to celebrating young people’s contributions to conflict prevention and transformation, as well as inclusion, social justice, and sustainable peace.”
