GCC Secretary-General: Industrial Sector Now a Key Global Player, Not Just a Supporter of Regional Economies

Kuwait City: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi emphasized that the industrial sector in the GCC countries is no longer merely a supporter of regional economies, but has become an influential and effective player on the regional and global industrial scene. He affirmed that the GCC states have wisely invested their resources not only to meet domestic needs but also to establish major industries that have demonstrated global competence, ambition, and integration with the world economy.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Albudaiwi made these remarks during the 54th meeting of the GCC Industrial Cooperation Committee, held on Wednesday (April 30, 2025) in Kuwait. The meeting was chaired by Kuwaiti Minister of Commerce and Industry and President of the current session Khalifa Al-Ajeel, and attended by ministers of industry from GCC countries.

In his speech, the Secretary-General stated that the directives of the GCC leadership continue to drive progress and capitalize on past achievements for the benefit of the GCC states and their citizens. He underscored the commitment to advancing coordination, integration, and interconnectedness across member states.

He noted the GCC's successful efforts in enhancing economic cooperation and integration, particularly within the industrial sector, which he described as a cornerstone of economic diversification strategies and a key driver of growth. He added that the sector has witnessed significant development over recent decades, fueled by substantial investments and ambitious national visions aimed at building strong, diversified economies.
