GCC Secretary General and EU Vice President Discuss Regional Security and Cooperation

Riyadh: Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi received High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat.

According to Saudi Press Agency, during the meeting, they discussed regional and international developments, including the repercussions of Iranian attacks on GCC countries and their impact on regional security, international navigation, and global energy supplies. The EU high representative expressed the Union's supportive stance toward GCC countries and its condemnation of these attacks. She affirmed the EU's commitment to strengthening coordination to maintain regional and international security and stability.

For his part, the secretary general commended the supportive European positions expressed during the GCC-EU extraordinary ministerial meeting. He appreciated the EU's solidarity with GCC countries and stressed the importance of continued international coordination to address escalating challenges in the region.

The meeting also reviewed GCC-EU relations and discussed ways to enhance them in a manner that serves mutual interests. It also addressed the outcomes of the first summit between GCC leaders and EU heads of state and government, as well as the priorities of the Joint Action Programme for the period 2022-2027.
