Jeddah: The GCC Rheumatology Conference 2026 commenced today in Jeddah under the patronage of Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Makkah Region Governor Prince Khalid bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz, with broad participation from leading experts and specialists in rheumatic diseases from across the Kingdom, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and several other countries.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the conference is being held over four days at the Hilton Jeddah Hotel, featuring more than 120 speakers and session chairs from the Kingdom and the GCC countries. Additionally, a distinguished group of international experts from Canada, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, France, and Trkiye are participating, showcasing the Kingdom's capacity in hosting specialized medical conferences.

Conference Chairperson and Saudi Society for Rheumatology President Dr. Hanan Al-Rayes stated that the conference serves as a scientific platform for discussing developments in the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases and for enhancing regional and international cooperation. This effort aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to advance clinical practices and improve healthcare quality.

According to Al-Rayes, the event attracts a notable lineup of speakers from within the Kingdom and the GCC, alongside international experts, fostering scientific integration at regional and global levels. This reinforces the Kingdom's role as a hub for hosting specialized medical events.

The conference features two separate scientific conferences focused on adult and pediatric rheumatology, supporting sub-specialization and enhancing healthcare services for different age groups. The scientific program includes over 150 scientific papers and research posters, accredited specialized workshops offering continuing-education hours, and activities aimed at young researchers, under the society's initiative to support scientific research, now in its sixth year.
