Rome: The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) participated in the 10th Global Conference on Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX), held in Rome from September 29 to October 3. The event, themed 'Smarter Data for Better Insights,' gathered heads and representatives of international organizations, statistical offices, and global experts.
According to Saudi Press Agency, GASTAT President Fahad Al-Dossari led the Saudi delegation in discussions on the latest developments in statistical and metadata exchange. The participation aimed to utilize modern technologies to enhance digital statistical platforms, adopt global practices in data governance, and ensure accurate statistical indicators through the broader application of SDMX standards. The conference also served as a platform to boost international cooperation and knowledge sharing among organizations and statistical bodies.
During the event, Al-Dossari met with Bert Kroese, Chief Statistician, Data Officer, and Director of the Statistics Department at the IMF. They explored ways to enhance cooperation, benefit from international initiatives to advance statistical innovation, and develop methodologies that support quality planning, economic growth, and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
The five-day conference included plenary sessions on the importance of adopting modern technologies in statistical and metadata exchange, such as artificial intelligence in data processes. It also featured workshops aimed at boosting collaboration among international statistical organizations to improve practices across statistical apparatuses worldwide.
