New delhi: On behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah participated in the second-day meeting of the BRICS 2026 Summit, held in New Delhi, the capital of the Republic of India. Saudi Arabia attended the summit as an invited country.
According to Saudi Press Agency, during the meeting, the foreign minister conveyed greetings from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and HRH the Crown Prince. He expressed the Kingdom's gratitude to India for its leadership during its presidency of BRICS in 2026 and appreciated the invitation extended to Saudi Arabia for this year's Summit.
In his speech, the foreign minister highlighted the need to de-escalate tensions in the region and called for prioritizing political and diplomatic efforts. He emphasized that security in the Arabian Gulf is contingent upon respecting the sovereignty and independence of its states, refraining from interfering in their internal matters, adhering to good neighborliness, and resolving disputes peacefully.
Prince Faisal reiterated that the security of the Kingdom, the protection of its territory, and safeguarding its national assets are of utmost importance. He stated that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states will not tolerate any threats to their territories or vital interests, regardless of the reasons presented.
He stressed the significance of maintaining freedom of navigation and ensuring the safety of commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and other vital maritime corridors. Disruptions in these routes, he noted, could impact global markets, supply chains, and economic growth.
Concluding his remarks, the foreign minister underscored the objectives for which international institutions were established and the need to enhance their capacity to meet their responsibilities. He noted that the credibility of the international system hinges on the consistent application of its rules and laws and expressed Saudi Arabia's eagerness to continue its engagement with BRICS and the global community.
The meeting was attended by Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to the Republic of India Haytham AlMalki.
