Riyadh: Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah participated today, via videoconference, in an extraordinary joint meeting of foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU).
According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting also included GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas, and European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka ‚¬Å¡¬¦ uica. The participants reviewed the dangerous escalation in the region and the Iranian attacks targeting GCC states.
The ministers discussed the attacks on several GCC states and the resulting strikes on civilians, critical facilities, and diplomatic missions. EU states reaffirmed their strategic relations with GCC states and expressed full solidarity under the current circumstances.
They also discussed ways to strengthen joint action to enhance regional and international security and stability. The meeting underscored the importance of protecting civilians, respecting international law and international humanitarian law, and upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral International Affairs Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi, Director General of the General Department of Asian Affairs Nasser Al-Ghannoum, and Director of the Gulf Cooperation Council Department Faisal bin Saeed.
