Flynas Advances Sustainability with Major Carbon Offsetting and Inclusivity Initiatives

General

Riyadh: Flynas has made notable strides in its sustainability efforts throughout 2024, focusing on carbon offsetting, societal and environmental initiatives, and digital transformation. The airline successfully reduced carbon emissions by 625,152 tons over four years, a reduction equivalent to planting 25 million trees by the year's end.

According to Saudi Press Agency, flynas played a key role in launching the first voluntary carbon credit trading platform and participated in the third auction for high-quality carbon credits. The airline's initiatives also catered to enhancing travel experiences for people with disabilities, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

As part of its carbon reduction strategy, flynas joined 22 prominent Saudi and international companies in the voluntary carbon credit trading platform initiated by the Regional Voluntary Carbon Market Company (RVCMC), a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund, in November 2024. This platform seeks to boost the availability of high-quality carbon credits, supporting global climate projects and facilitating the transition to net-zero emissions in line with the Paris Agreement.

Earlier in the year, flynas formalized a partnership with RVCMC to advance carbon offsetting and sustainability, reinforcing the airline's alignment with Saudi Arabia's net-zero emissions goal by 2060. The airline's operational improvements included upgrading 90% of its fleet to next-generation Airbus A320neo aircraft, enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions significantly.

Flynas also launched a pioneering initiative in Saudi aviation by introducing sign language and autism awareness training for flight attendants, developed in collaboration with the Saudi Association for Hearing Impairment and the Saudi Autism Society. This program ensures that each flight has a crew member proficient in sign language, enhancing inclusivity for passengers with hearing impairments.

In addition, flynas provided travel support for autistic passengers and their companions, coinciding with World Autism Awareness Day, and sponsored travel for breast cancer patients in partnership with the Zahra Association. The airline also supported the 6th Annual Forum for Families of People with Disabilities as the official airline sponsor.

Flynas further contributed to sustainability by launching a tree-planting initiative with employee participation, allowing digital tracking of tree growth and carbon offset contributions. Collaborating with the Saudi Investment Recycling Company, flynas recycled equipment to reinforce its sustainability commitment.

Enhancing digital services, flynas introduced the fourth generation of its mobile application, improving self-service options for travelers, and relaunched the flynas Holidays platform with additional languages and currency options, offering an integrated travel booking experience.
