Jeddah: Residents across the Kingdom and the Arab world will witness the first supermoon of the year this evening. The moon will appear larger and brighter than usual due to its close proximity to Earth, with an illumination rate of 99.7%, coinciding with the full moon of Rabi' Al-Thani.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Jeddah Astronomy Society President Eng. Majed Abu Zahra explained that the moon will rise from the eastern horizon at sunset and may appear orange due to dust and atmospheric particles scattering blue light and leaving the red spectrum. Once higher in the sky, the moon will take on its familiar silvery-white color and remain brightly illuminated throughout the night until sunrise on Tuesday.
Abu Zahra noted that the moon will appear full on the nights of October 6 and 7, reassuring that the supermoon will have no abnormal effects on Earth.
