Colombo: The second edition of the final qualifiers for the Holy Quran memorization national competition in Sri Lanka commenced today. Organized by the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance in collaboration with the Saudi Embassy, the competition is being held at the Galle Face Hall in Colombo.
According to Saudi Press Agency, a panel of seven judges listened to the recitations of 200 female finalists, who had qualified from a pool of 400 contestants representing 25 provinces. The participants demonstrated exceptional talent and skill, making this year's competition the largest and most widespread in Sri Lankan history.
Saudi Ambassador to Sri Lanka Khalid bin Humoud Al-Qahtani emphasized that the competition serves noble and lofty objectives aligned with Saudi Arabia's global leadership. As the largest competition of its kind in the country and supported by the Kingdom for the second consecutive year, it aims to encourage Quran memorization among youth and promote adherence to its teachings. Ambassador Al-Qahtani further highlighted that the competition seeks to spread the values of moderation and tolerance and strengthen cultural and religious ties between Saudi Arabia and friendly countries, contributing to the development of a generation that is proud of its Islamic identity and committed to the teachings of its religion.
