Family Affairs Council Launches Awareness Campaign for International Day of Older Persons

Riyadh:According to Saudi Press Agency, the Family Affairs Council has initiated an awareness campaign in recognition of the International Day of Older Persons, observed annually on October 1. The campaign aims to highlight the important role of senior citizens within families and society, while promoting care, respect, and appreciation for their contributions.

The campaign is aligned with the United Nations theme, "The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives," and seeks to create supportive family and community environments that uphold the dignity, inclusion, and overall quality of life for older persons.

Focusing on seniors, caregivers, families, and the general public, the initiative is structured around three main pillars: appreciation and respect, participation and inclusion, and companionship and safety.

The campaign includes educational materials and social media awareness messages, such as a guide on safely accompanying older persons. Additionally, a virtual panel discussion will be broadcast on the council's official channels, addressing topics like healthcare systems, civil society support services, and social integration.

In partnership with the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, the campaign also features an interactive initiative aimed at strengthening bonds between the elderly and children, encouraging the intergenerational transfer of knowledge, traditions, and human values.
