Riyadh: The European Commission: acknowledged the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's notable progress in the protection and enforcement of intellectual property (IP) rights, highlighting significant advancements in its IP landscape. In its latest report evaluating non-EU member states, the commission noted that Saudi Arabia was not listed among countries under monitoring, an indication of its improved performance in this area.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the European Commission's report, which is published biennially, assesses the extent to which non-EU countries adhere to international standards in protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights. The most recent edition highlighted the Kingdom's tangible progress, attributing it to comprehensive efforts, including the modernization of legal frameworks, the enhancement of enforcement mechanisms, and strengthened international cooperation.
Further affirming this progress, the 2025 International Intellectual Property Index, released by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce last April, reported that Saudi Arabia made a significant leap in global rankings, moving up 17 places to 25th out of 55 countries. With a 17.55% improvement rate, the highest among all countries surveyed, the Kingdom also surpassed the regional average for the Middle East.
These achievements reflect the strong support the intellectual property sector receives from the Kingdom's leadership and underscore its ongoing commitment to international standards. They also reinforce Saudi Arabia's position as a trusted regional and global partner in intellectual property (IP) protection and demonstrate its commitment to fostering an innovation-friendly environment, aligning with the goals of Vision 2030.
