Environment Ministry Advocates Solar Power Adoption in Agriculture Sector

Riyadh:The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has emphasized the adoption of solar energy within the agricultural sector during the 43rd Saudi Agriculture exhibition.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the ministry has encouraged farm owners located outside the planned electricity grid expansion areas to consider alternatives to diesel generators, specifically solar power. This initiative aims to reduce production costs, enhance operational efficiency, decrease reliance on liquid fuels, and support sustainability in Saudi Arabia's agriculture.

The ministry's recommendation was highlighted by the director general of the ministry's general department for agricultural licensing and registration during a panel discussion titled 'Solar Energy in Agriculture Practical Solutions to Reduce Costs and Enhance Sustainability.' The session was part of Saudi Agriculture 2026, held from October 19 to 22 at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center.

The panel discussion covered practical experiences in integrating solar energy into agricultural practices, such as using solar power for irrigation systems, greenhouses, and cooling equipment. It was noted that these applications contribute to reducing operating costs, improving resource efficiency, and supporting more sustainable agricultural production.
