US guest of honor at Cairo int’l theater festival

The US will participate as a guest of honor during the Cairo International Festival for Contemporary and Experimental Theater, the event’s chairman, Sameh Mahran, said.

Mahran made his remark during a press conference held at the premises of the Supreme Council of Culture at Cairo Opera House to unveil arrangements for the event and its schedule.

Slated for September 10-19, the festival’s 26th edition will include a special symposium on the African theater themed “The Contemporary African Theater,” Mahran said.

Ten foreign theatrical shows will be performed during the festival in addition to four African and three Egyptian ones.

A number of Egyptian, Arab and foreign artists, critics and playwrights will be honored during the event including veteran Egyptian actress Samira Abdel Aziz and late stage director Mohamed Abu Al-Souod, in recognition of their theater enrichment contributions.
