Egypt’s Public Prosecution releases businessman Safwan Thabet, his son

The Egyptian Public Prosecution released the businessman Safwan Thabet and his son, Seif El-Din. They were facing accusations of “funding terrorist entities.”

Safwan Thabet, the CEO of the Juhayna Food Industries company, was detained in December 2020.

In February 2021, the investigation authorities ordered detaining the son pending investigation, on accusations of funding terrorist entities.

Seif Thabet is accused of making an agreement with leaders of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group to hold meetings, where they agreed on putting alternative plans to maintain the financing.
