The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population confirmed that the influenza vaccine is important for the elderly and protects them from 4 types of influenza viruses during the winter period.
In a statement, the ministry went on explaining that influenza type A virus is divided into many subtypes, where this type of influenza virus is the most dangerous, as it alone may cause pandemics and outbreaks among the millions.
The ministry added, influenza type B viruses are divided into two strains and not subtypes, pointing out that seasonal influenza viruses A and B are the ones that spread between humans and cause outbreaks and epidemics.
As for the third type of seasonal influenza viruses C, it was found that it only causes mild infection.
The ministry indicated that the influenza vaccine is available at VACSERA branches nationwide and in many pharmacies.
