Egypt’s gov’t denies privatization of public hospitals

In a statement Monday, the Cabinet denied media reports claiming that the government plans to privatize public hospitals in preparation for cancelling free of charge medical services.

The media center said it contacted with the Health and Population Ministry, which dismissed the reports as baseless.

It further stressed that free medical service in public hospitals will remain in effect and that state-funded medical treatment will never be phased out.

The ministry, meanwhile, said that partnership with the private sector in the health sector is only confined to building and developing public hospitals.
