Egypt’s FM receives UN Special envoy for Libya in Cairo

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will receive Abdoulaye Bathily, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, on Monday at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry downtown Cairo, announced the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement.

On October 19, 2022, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit expressed his confidence that Abdoulaye Bathily, the United Nations Special Representative for Libya and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), will proceed with regional and international efforts to get Libya out of the current political stalemate through agreeing a legal and constitutional base for holding the national elections.

He made the remarks on Wednesday during a phone call with Bathily in which he greeted the latter for assuming his post.

Abul Gheit discussed with Bathily the latest developments in Libya and agreed on continued consultations between the Arab League and the UN to restore stability to Libya.

The two sides also stressed that effective Libyan players would heed national interests and resorting to dialogue to reach a settlement to the current crisis.
