Egypt’s FM meets with speaker of the Palestinian National Council

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on Thursday speaker of the Palestinian National Council Rawhi Fattouh, said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement.

Egypt condemned on September 26, 2022, the repeated, escalating violations of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, carried out by Jewish extremist elements in full view of the Israeli occupation forces.

“Egypt stressed that the continuation of such encroachments, the imposition of restrictions on the movement of Palestinian worshipers and their performance of religious rites, and the recurring attempts to modify the legal and historical status quo of Jerusalem, constitute a flagrant violation of international law, and a dangerous escalation that undermines the chances of reaching a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian cause and achieving the two-state solution,” the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

On September 6, 2022, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas briefed his Egyptian counterpart, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on the efforts made to push forward the peace process. Sisi received Abbas in Al-Ittihadiya presidential palace in Cairo, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

During the meeting, Abbas briefed Sisi on the situation in Palestine in light of the continuous Israeli violations against the Palestinian people and lands, WAFA said.

The meeting comes a month after Egypt contributed to brokering a ceasefire in Gaza, after the Israeli assault killed more than 40 Palestinians, including children.
