Egypt’s Elections of Lawyers’ Syndicate kick off

Elections of the General Syndicate of Lawyers in Egypt kicked off Sunday at its headquarters of the General Syndicate downtown Cairo, to choose a new chief to succeed the late head Ragai Attia, head of the Arab Lawyers Union;

Eighteen candidates are competing in the elections under full judicial supervision assigned by the Egyptian State Lawsuits Authority, with a number of advisers members of the general committee supervising the elections.

On August 27, the Administrative Court of the State Council ruled to exclude Montaser Al-Zayat and Sameh Ashour from the list of candidates for the elections, and the court’s ruling included rejecting the lawsuits demanding the exclusion of Abdel Halim Allam, Nabil Abdel Salam and Omar Haridi.

On September 1, 2022, the Administrative Court also rejected the appeals filled by the excluded lawyers.
