Egypt, South Korea sign 2 contracts for joint manufacture of K-9 howitzer

Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Ahmed Morsi has witnessed the signing of two contracts for the joint manufacture of the K-9 howitzer via cooperation between the Ministry of State for Military Production – represented by the Tanks Production and Repair Company (Factory 200) in the first contract and Abu Zaabal Company for Engineering Industries (Factory 100) in the second – and the South Korean Hanwha Corporation.

The signing ceremony was attended by the head of the Egyptian Armaments Authority (EAA), a number of commanders of the Armed Forces, the South Korean ambassador in Cairo, and the country’s military attaché.

The minister of state for military production said the signing of the two contracts comes as part of the endeavors made by the two friendly countries for making bilateral relations sustainable and directed towards a better future for both of them.

Egypt and South Korea are recently witnessing unprecedented development in the field of national defense industries, Morsi said, pointing out to his visit to South Korea in October 2021 to participate in South Korea’s largest defense expo Seoul ADEX.

The minister added that he is looking forward to fostering cooperation with the South Korean side in the field of defense industries in a way that benefits both sides and the world as a whole, noting that coordination would continue between all Egypt’s state institutions and the Armed Forces with a view to developing and upgrading the armament system to preserve the country’s national security.

Meanwhile, the South Korean ambassador said Seoul sees Egypt as a strategic partner and a stable country that has an effective and influential role in the Middle East in light of its great potential and skilled manpower, especially among the youth.

He also highlighted Egypt’s position as a strategic hub for South Korean companies in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
