Egypt sells 892 M kilowatt-hour of electricity internationally during 5 months

Egypt sold 892 million kilowatt-hours of electricity to the international interconnection countries and private sector companies BOOT during the period from February to July of this year.

According to statistics, Egypt sold 174 million kilowatt-hours in February, 139 million kilowatt-hours in March, and 119 million kilowatt-hours in April, 123 million kilowatts in May, 118 million kilowatts in June, and 219 million kilowatts in July.

The total generated and purchased energy amounted to 107.4 billion kilowatt-hours during the period from February to July of this year, with 14,761 million kilowatts in February, 16,457 million kilowatts in March, 16,617 million kilowatts in April, 17,748 million kilowatts in May, 20,287 million kilowatts in June, and 21,528 million kilowatts in July.

Electricity uses during July 2022 were distributed among household uses by 37.7%, industrial by 25.4%, commercial by 5.3%, and sold energy and others by 31.6%.

The country succeeded in adding electrical generation capacities amounting to 31 thousand megawatts over 8 years, bringing the total to 59.9 thousand megawatts from adding generation capabilities (including: steam – combined cycle – gas stations and units – diesel units) to 17 new projects with a total capacity of about 28,676 megawatts, and electricity production projects from renewable sources with capacities of 1,634 megawatts from wind and 1,631 from solar energy.

The government has also worked to complete the implementation of the electrical interconnection project between Egypt and Saudi Arabia to exchange 3,000 megawatts.

It is planned to complete the implementation of the entire project in 2026, where the first phase of the interconnection project between Egypt and Sudan has been completed with a capacity of 80 megawatts, and preparations are underway for the second phase, which is increasing the transmitted power to 240 megawatts, and the transmitted power can be raised to 300 megawatts, and further studies have been conducted regarding the electrical connection between Egypt, Cyprus and Greece via the island of Crete.
