Egypt hosts, chairs Adaptation Action Coalition forum

Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad said a forum for the Adaptation Action Coalition (AAC) is aimed to discuss the adaptation efforts in the health and water sectors at the international and local levels as well as methods adopted by local communities to boost institutional capacity to support adaptation.

The minister made the remarks while chairing the forum which is held under the title: “The Journey Thus Far and the Road Ahead: Reflections and Progress on the 2019 Call to Action on Adaptation and Resilience,” via videoconferencing.

The forum convened on the margins of the preliminary discussions held in preparation for the UN Climate Change Conference (Pre COP26) in Milan.

Egypt hosts the forum as the co-chairman of the Adaptation Action Coalition along with the UK and in coordination with the World Resources Institute.

Fouad expressed her pleasure at the participation of the leaders and experts of climate adaptation at the international level, calling on them to share their countries’ experiences and achievements to stimulate international efforts for adaptation ahead of COP 26-27.

She highlighted the necessity of working together to combat climate changes, stressing the importance of solidarity to activate Paris Agreement, boost justice and build confidence, hailing the UN secretary general’s call to allocate half of the funding for the climate adaptation issues.

She reviewed Egypt’s experience and national measures to address climate change.
