EGYPT, ISRAEL CONDEMNS NORTH KOREA NUCLEAR TEST

Egypt and Israel condemns the latest nuclear test by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea), the two Middle East countries Foreign Ministry said in statements on Monday.

Egypt is greatly concerned about Pyongyang’s failure to commit to UN Security Council resolutions in this regard, which poses a threat to the regional security in East Asia, the Egyptian statement said.

North Korea on Sunday successfully detonated a hydrogen bomb that can be carried by an intercontinental ballistic missile, DPRK’s Central Television announced.

This was the sixth nuclear test the North has undertaken.

The test deals a blow to the nuclear non-proliferation system, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s statement said, adding that UNSC resolutions and principles of international law should be honored.

“International conflicts should be peacefully settled in line with those resolutions and principles,” the statement stressed.

The continued escalation on the Korean peninsula fuels tension and instability, and can very well lead to an arms race in the region, the statement said.

In JERUSALEM, Israel’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the experiment is a “continuation” of North Korea’s “pattern of defiance activity.”

It urged North Korea to “comply with all Security Council resolutions on this issue and refrain from testing and developing weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems.”
