Dhahran: Eastern Region Governor Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz sponsored the closing ceremony of the 25th edition of the Asian Physics Olympiad 2025 (APhO) this evening, held at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Dhahran. Minister of Education Yousef Al-Benyan attended the event.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted the APhO from May 4 to 12, welcoming 240 students from 30 countries, accompanied by 110 international physics specialists.
Prince Saud affirmed that the Kingdom's hosting of this major scientific event reflects its leadership in fostering talent and innovation, and reinforces the trust of international institutions in its organizational and intellectual capabilities. He noted that it also showcases the Kingdom's significant progress in science education and human capital development, thanks to the effective integration of relevant sectors.
This edition marks the first time the olympiad has been held in the Middle East, underscoring the Kingdom's commitment to empowering youth and nurturing scientific talent. It aligns with Saudi Arabia's global leadership in the energy sector and its ongoing efforts to invest in people and support young minds, positioning it as a hub for scientific excellence on the international stage.
Launched in 1999 in Indonesia with the participation of 12 countries, the Asian Physics Olympiad has grown to include 30 countries and is now regarded as one of the most prominent annual international scientific competitions for talented high school students in the field of physics.
