Riyadh: Duke University welcomed Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, who delivered a distinguished lecture on the contributions and legacy of Islamic civilization in the realms of science and literature.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Sheikh Dr. Al-Issa offered a comprehensive overview of Islamic civilization, highlighting its influence across politics, governance, and social structures. He also explored the civilization's enduring impact on intellectual discourse, particularly in legislation, philosophy, law, and the arts, while engaging with international narratives and scholarly discussions from global think tanks and academic institutions.
In conjunction with the lecture, Sheikh Dr. Al-Issa met with Duke University President Dr. Vincent E. Price, who praised the Secretary-General's visit and his engagement with university faculty and students. The two sides discussed expanding collaborative initiatives between Duke University and the Muslim World League.
The visit culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Islamic Cultural Foundation of Geneva and Duke Divinity School. The agreement aims to bolster academic and cultural cooperation, promote interfaith dialogue, and address global challenges such as climate change and environmental sustainability through joint initiatives by religious and academic leaders.
