Diriyah Biennale Foundation Showcases Winning AlMusalla Design at Bukhara Biennial

General

Riyadh: The Diriyah Biennale Foundation has unveiled the winning design of the inaugural AlMusalla Prize at the Bukhara Biennial, highlighting historical ties between Islamic cultures and offering a modern interpretation. This exhibition underscores the Foundation's dedication to cultural growth in Uzbekistan.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the AlMusalla Prize was first introduced at the Islamic Arts Biennale in 2025. The design is inspired by the fusion of craftsmanship and spirituality in weaving, featuring a structure with an open courtyard and prayer spaces that mimic the form of a loom.

By bringing AlMusalla to Bukhara, the exhibition finds a new home with shared historical and cultural connections to its origin in Jeddah. Both cities have histories of cultural exchange and openness. Jeddah, a significant port city on the Red Sea, serves as a gateway for pilgrims to Makkah and Madinah, welcoming Muslims worldwide and enriching its cultural tapestry.

The Bukhara Biennial is part of ongoing efforts to rejuvenate historic sites central to Bukhara's cultural legacy. It is the first event hosted in a newly restored historic district, which is undergoing extensive conservation. The Bukhara Biennial runs until November 20.
