Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration, Tawfiq Krishan on Sunday attended celebration to announce winners of Cleanliness Award for Municipalities for 2023 in its first edition. Speaking during the honoring ceremony, Krishan said the occasion reflects the King’s directives, which he emphasized during the closing session of the Municipalities Conference held in December 2019. Krishan noted the celebration coincides with the local administration sector’s “quantum leap,” reflected in the “outstanding” performance of Jordan’s municipal and provincial councils. Krishan said Jordan’s municipalities began to focus on their development, service and community role, pointing out that the new Local Administration Law issued in 2021 allowed municipalities to partner with the private sector and establish local investment and development projects, which would contribute to enhancing their revenues and expanding and improving their service quality. The ministry, he said, was keen on carrying out the King’s directives on the need to support incentives for municipalities by launching various awards at the national level. Referring to the King’s directives to pay attention to Jordan’s local administration sector and focus on field visits, he said this Royal vision constituted an incentive for the ministry to increase activities and achievement. Krishan noted all the Kingdom’s municipalities were visited to listen to their pressing issues, demands and challenges. The government, through the ministry, provided emergency aid to municipalities amounting to about JD68 million, primarily aimed to support them with cleaning-related equipment and devices, he pointed out. Moreover, he said the gov’t officially appointed about 2,550 cleaning workers, which was reflected in their monthly income, with an increase of about JD100 per month. Announcing the winners, Basiliya Municipality won JD100 thousand, Ash’ari Municipality bagged JD200K and Bani Hamida Municipality was awarded JD300K. Meanwhile, Wasatiya Municipality won JD400K and Dhiban Municipality was awarded JD300K. Additionally, Ayl Municipality secured JD200K and Greater Salt Municipality won JD500K, Greater Irbid Municipality bagged JD400K and Greater Madaba Municipality won JD300K.
